Police in Nateete have arrested two suspects linked to a series of violent panga robberies in Mutundwe, a suburb of Kampala.
The suspects, identified as William Engulu, 37, a private security guard, and Paul Mutabazi, 21, a resident of Kabaawo Zone, were arrested following an early morning operation conducted by patrol officers.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, the arrests followed an incident that occurred in the early hours of April 10, 2026.
“On 10th April 2026 at about 1:00 a.m., three men armed with pangas and sticks allegedly set up an illegal roadblock at Kweeba Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Rubaga Division. The suspects reportedly intercepted a boda boda rider carrying two passengers, ordered them to lie down, and began demanding money from them,” Kawala said.
She added that police officers on routine patrol responded swiftly to the scene, leading to the arrest of two suspects, while one managed to escape.
“Fortunately, police officers on patrol responded quickly, intercepted the suspects, and arrested two of them, while one managed to flee the scene,” she said.
Police said efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspect and any other accomplices involved in the robberies.
Investigations into the matter are still underway.
