Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) has been named the overall winner of the Excel Award at the 2025 Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Taxpayers Appreciation Awards, earning top recognition for exemplary tax compliance and its substantial contribution to Uganda’s domestic revenue.
The annual URA Taxpayers Appreciation Awards honour the most compliant and high-contributing taxpayers whose performance supports national development. NBL secured the top accolade for maintaining a 100% tax-filing record across all tax heads and consistently emerging among the country’s highest revenue contributors.
According to URA figures, Nile Breweries has contributed Shs1.37 trillion to national revenue over the last three years, including Shs341 billion in the 2024/2025 fiscal year alone.
Speaking after receiving the award, Emmanuel Njuki, NBL’s Legal & Corporate Affairs Manager, said the recognition demonstrates the company’s long-standing commitment to responsible corporate conduct.
“This award reaffirms our dedication to doing business the right way—with integrity, transparency, and full compliance,” Njuki said. “For us, paying taxes is not just a legal obligation but a vital contribution to building a stronger, self-sustaining Uganda. Every shilling we contribute supports essential services, infrastructure, and opportunities that uplift Ugandans.”
At the ceremony, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija praised compliant taxpayers for their central role in advancing Uganda’s development agenda.
“Taxpayers are the backbone of national development. Every kilometre of road, every health centre, every classroom, and every government programme begins with your contribution,” he noted. “We want to reduce reliance on external financing by strengthening our domestic revenue capacity so we can finance our own national priorities.”
URA Commissioner General John R. Musinguzi celebrated the winners, revealing that URA surpassed its revenue target for the financial year.
“We closed the financial year with a target of Shs31.3 trillion and collected Shs31.6 trillion,” he said. “This progress is driven by disciplined taxpayers who understand that building Uganda requires collective effort. The taxpayers we honour today embody discipline, resilience, and a shared commitment to developing Uganda.”
The 2025 awards also recognised exceptional performers across multiple sectors, including MTN Uganda, TotalEnergies Uganda, and others for excellence in tax compliance and revenue contribution.
