National Unity Platform’s Olivia Lutaaya, a former convictee who was previously released by the General Court Martial on a presidential pardon, has been remanded again this time over allegations of “unlawful drilling.”
Lutaaya was on Tuesday produced before the Kawempe Magistrate’s Court in Kanyanya, where she was formally charged and added to an existing case file that already includes several opposition figures and supporters.
She now joins Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, Eddy Mutwe, Achilleo Kivumbi, Saudah Madada, Tasi Calvin (Bobi Giant), and others facing similar charges.
The court ordered that she be remanded until November 18th, 2025.
Lutaaya was arrested last Friday in Mbarara, as the National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, headed to his second rally venue in Buzibwera.
Her arrest adds to the growing list of NUP supporters detained during the ongoing campaign trail.
According to Kyagulanyi, over 90 supporters, including members of his personal security team, were arrested during the campaign activities in western Uganda.
Lutaaya’s re-arrest has drawn public attention because she was among several individuals who benefited from a presidential pardon last year, after spending tjree years on remand over treachery charges before the General Court Martial.
Court proceedings were brief, with prosecution informing the magistrate that investigations into the case are still ongoing.
Lutaaya is expected to return to court on November 18th for further mention of the case.
