The Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Hon. Nyombi Thembo, has called on all managers and staff to embrace internal audit as a key driver for organizational transformation, rather than viewing it with skepticism or fear.
Speaking at the Internal Audit Awareness Breakfast Meeting, at the UCC house in Bugolobi, Thembo emphasized the importance of internal audit in fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement at UCC.
“I encourage all managers and staff to recognize the importance of internal audit. Let’s take a positive approach and work together to bring about the changes we want to see,” he said, urging staff to view internal auditors as partners in progress.
“Instead of fearing feedback, let’s welcome it. Rather than pushing back against change, let’s take initiative to make it happen. Together, we can create a stronger organization,” he added.
As part of UCC’s observance of Internal Audit Awareness Month, the Commission has taken time to celebrate the often unsung but crucial role of the Internal Audit function.
The initiative serves as a reminder of the audit team’s contribution to creating and protecting value through engagement, insight, and strategic guidance.
“At UCC, we regard internal audit as a fundamental pillar in our journey towards accountability and governance,” Nyombi Thembo noted.
Internal audit has played a pivotal role in identifying risks, recommending improvements, and ensuring that UCC’s operations align with its regulatory mandate and strategic goals.
According to the ED, a strong internal audit function equips the organization to not only detect potential weaknesses but also to foster innovation and better service delivery.
