Gulu Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded a businessman for allegedly attempting to violently seize land belonging to St. Luke Church of Uganda in Omoro District.
The businessman, Peter Abola , was produced in court on Monday following a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, CID, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He has been sent to prison until December 10, 2025, as investigations continue.
Prosecutors say that between October and November 20, 2025, Abola unlawfully entered the Church’s 18-acre property at Koro Abili Village and began fencing it off using concrete poles, wire mesh, and chain links.
The land hosts key community facilities, including a Health Centre II.
Authorities allege that Abola blocked access to the health centre and chased away its staff without any lawful court order.
According to historical records, St. Luke Church of Uganda has occupied the land since 1926, housing a church, a primary school, and the health facility that have served the community for decades without dispute.
Abola will return to court next month.
