The Orthodox Church in Uganda has unveiled an organizing committee to prepare for the 71st birthday celebrations of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
The committee was introduced by Archbishop Jeronimos Muzeeyi during a ceremony held at the church’s headquarters in Namungoona. It will be chaired by Fr. Bbosa, deputized by Theodore Ssekikubo, with support from the Buganda Kingdom.
Kabaka Ronald Mutebi will celebrate his 71st birthday on April 13 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral. Each year, the Kabaka selects a religious denomination to host the official prayers marking his birthday.
Last year, the thanksgiving mass was held at Lubaga Cathedral and was presided over by Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere.
Speaking during the unveiling, Archbishop Muzeeyi thanked the Buganda Kingdom for entrusting the Orthodox Church with the responsibility of organizing this year’s celebrations.
“The Buganda Kingdom holds a very special place in the Orthodox faith here in Uganda,” he said.
He pledged that the church would organize an event that preserves the dignity and significance of the occasion.
“Being entrusted with the responsibility to organize the Kabaka’s birthday celebrations is an honor for us, and we shall do everything possible to ensure that the event reflects the dignity and importance of this occasion,” Muzeeyi added.
The Archbishop also expressed gratitude to the kingdom for the trust placed in the church.
“I thank the Buganda Kingdom for the trust they have placed in us. We shall work together with all stakeholders to ensure that the Kabaka’s birthday is celebrated in a way that brings pride to the kingdom,” he said.
The chairperson of the organizing committee, Fr. Bbosa, noted that preparations are already underway, with the committee working closely with the kingdom and other partners to ensure a smooth event.
“We are working closely with the kingdom and other partners to ensure that everything is in place for the celebrations,” he said.
The committee’s vice chairperson, Theodore Ssekikubo, emphasized that their focus is to ensure the event reflects the importance of the Kabaka while promoting unity among the people of Buganda.
