The Jinja-based Hotel and Tourism Training College (HTTC), Uganda’s only government-owned institution dedicated to tourism and hospitality training, is set to graduate 366 trainees on Friday, November 28th.
The event will be officiated by William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV as the special guest, alongside the Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Col. (Rtd) Tom Butime, who will serve as guest of honour. Several dignitaries, parents, guardians, and invited guests are expected to attend.
Speaking during a pre-graduation press briefing, the college’s publicist, Daniel Kazungu, said preparations were nearing completion as the institution prepares to host hundreds of attendees. He revealed that of the 366 graduands, 81 are male—representing 22 per cent—while 285 are female, accounting for 78 per cent.
“The 366 graduands include 83 apprentices sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and three others who pursued specialized short courses,” Kazungu noted.
He explained that the college’s apprenticeship model is designed to meet employer needs by equipping learners with practical skills taught by industry experts.
The college principal, Richard Kawere, praised the graduands for exhibiting knowledge, competence, confidence, creativity, and innovation—key traits required in the hospitality and tourism sector.
“Many of the graduands have already secured employment, a clear sign of the demand for the skills they possess,” he said.
Kawere added that HTTC remains committed to continuous improvement and growth, as demonstrated by its elevation to college status under the TVET Act of 2025.
