Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) East has successfully dismantled a robbery gang that has been terrorizing residents in Mukono Municipality and surrounding areas.
The group, commonly known as “Eggaali,” attack members of the public using knives, pangas, and pavers, stealing valuables including mobile phones, laptops, cash, bags, and wristwatches.
Their operations were concentrated along Kayunga Road, Kusatu, Nasuuti, and Wantoni areas.
In response to complaints from residents, Police launched an intelligence-led operation to target the gang.
“Following investigations, we have arrested seven suspects linked to the robberies. The operation is ongoing as we continue to trace other members of the network,” said SP Rachael Kawala, KMP police spokesperson.
The arrests began on 31st May 2026, when Vian Muhanguzi, 25, was apprehended. During interrogation, Muhanguzi confessed to participating in multiple robberies and disclosed the identities of his accomplices.
Muhanguzi led police to a hideout in Kigombya Cell, where the gang spent their days and carried out attacks at night.
At the hideout, police arrested, David Mubiru, alias “City,” 20, Solomon Kizito, alias “Kitama,” 18, Junior Ssemanda, alias “Kamese,” 17, Paul Muyomba, alias “Matama,” 17 and Mark Okumu, alias “Sekere,” 18.
The suspects admitted to committing numerous robberies in Mukono Municipality and said they had lost count of the victims.
Police recovered several items at the hideout, including a burdizzo, pruning machine, hammer, scissors, six wristwatches, suspected opium, counterfeit shs20,000 and shs50,000 notes, eighteen SIM cards, a torch, two face masks, two heavy-duty door cutters, eight knives (including a butterfly knife), and six phone chargers.
Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Lubanga Brian, alias “2PAC,” who’s said to be the ring leader.
