The State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF), Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, has cautioned politicians against misusing government-issued motorcycles for political mobilization.
The minister emphasized that these motorcycles, intended for production mobilization, should not be diverted for electioneering.
, Kyakulaga made the remarks while distributing 19 additional motorcycles to local governments under the Irrigation for Climate Resilience Project (ICRP) at MAAIF headquarters in Entebbe.
The project aims to strengthen sustainable agricultural practices by promoting irrigation as a climate adaptation measure.
“My friends, the politicians, please do not hijack these motorcycles for political mobilization. They are meant to mobilize production and prepare communities to benefit from the irrigation schemes the government is establishing,” the Minister stated.
Among the motorcycles distributed, seven were allocated to Isingiro district, seven to Kanungu, three to Lamwo, and two to Lira.
This follows the distribution of over 50 motorcycles to extension workers across 28 districts last month to enhance livestock production.
The Irrigation for Climate Resilience Project is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and the Ministry of Water and Environment (MOWE) to support the transition towards resilient agricultural practices through sustainable irrigation.
Godwin Nkwasibwa, the District Production Officer for Kanungu, expressed gratitude, noting, “The Irrigation for Climate Resilience project in Kanungu and Isingiro is progressing well. These motorcycles will be put to good use in boosting agricultural production.”
