Renowned academic Professor Badru Kateregga, the founder of Kampala University has opened up about a deeply painful chapter in his life, revealing how a recent DNA test shattered his world by confirming that a four-year-old boy he believed was his biological child is not.
In an emotional interview with Sanyuka TV, the professor disclosed that the child whom he had embraced as his own was born in one of the most expensive hospitals in the United States, with medical bills totaling over USD 300,000 fully paid by him.
“Many people may not relate to what that means because they are not the ones suffering. But to those who can wear my shoes, they know how heavy receiving the news that such an expensive child was born through adultery. If you don’t have strong mental health, that news alone can make you collapse,” said Prof. Kateregga.
But the betrayal, he says, did not stop at infidelity. Prof. Kateregga went on to accuse his wife Jolly Shibaiha Kateregga popularly known as Nalongo of subjecting him to years of physical abuse, which he claims has left lasting damage to his health.
“She used to beat me. My ears no longer hear the same because of the torture I went through,” he revealed, saying the abuse was not just emotional but physical, leaving him with lasting scars.
The professor further shared that when he attempted to seek help from his wife’s family during the marital turmoil, he was dismissed and advised to report the matter to police.
“I told her parents about the misunderstandings, but I was shocked when they told me to go to police. They said they’re not the police, so I should stop reporting to them,” he recalled bitterly.
Kateregga also accused his in-laws of betrayal, claiming he heavily invested in their wellbeing from medical care abroad to livestock projects at their home yet received no support when his marriage fell apart.
“I helped those people in everything—be it treatment, they were attended to by the best doctors in Germany and other countries. But when their daughter plotted to kill me, they didn’t help,” he stated.
Adding salt to injury, the professor claims that assets he had established at his in-laws’ home such as cows, goats, and agricultural projects were sold off without his consent or benefit.
“I had cows, goats, and other projects there, but they sold everything. I didn’t benefit at all,” he said.
Prof. Kateregga is now on a determined mission to reclaim what he says is rightfully his, including a mansion worth shs5 billion.
He recently accused the police of colluding with his wife in a bid to take over his property allegations the police have denied, clarifying that such disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Despite the turmoil, Kateregga remains hopeful, sharing that most of his children especially those living abroad have returned to support him and ensure his safety.
Now speaking out, he says, is not just about his personal healing but about setting an example for other men who suffer silently in abusive or manipulative relationships.
“Being a professor of knowledge, I chose to speak up not just for myself, but for many men out there who are suffocating in silence,” he remarked
Kateregga continues to accuse a “mafia network” colluding with his former fiancée, Jolly Shubaiha Irankunda, in a conspiracy to steal his wealth.
