The Executive Director of the Centre for Constitutional Governance (CCG), Sarah Bireete, has been granted bail by court in a case related to the alleged unlawful handling of voters’ data.
Court ordered Bireete to deposit Shs1 million cash, while her two sureties each executed a non-cash bond of Shs10 million.
As part of the bail conditions, the court directed Bireete to surrender her passport and restricted her from travelling outside the country without prior court clearance.
Bireete was arrested on December 30, 2025, and later charged with unlawfully obtaining or disclosing personal data, contrary to Section 35(1) and (2) of the Data Protection and Privacy Act.
According to the prosecution, between January and December 2025, at various locations across the country, Bireete allegedly obtained or disclosed national voters’ information without the prior consent of the Electoral Commission.
The case was adjourned to a later date for further hearing.
