A team from the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) has conducted a scheduled inspection of equipment and assets under the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) deployed as part of United Nations Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU-XI).
The inspection was led by UNSOS Logistics Officer Mr. Suzdaliev Andrii, alongside Contingent-Owned Equipment Officer Maha Al-Khatteb.
The exercise aimed to verify the condition, utilization, and readiness of mission-owned equipment to ensure alignment with UN standards for transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency.
“The exercise helps verify the condition and use of equipment in line with operational requirements, risk management, and the overall UN mandate,” said Mr. Andrii.
Speaking during the inspection, Captain Elapar Ali, the Contingent Logistics Officer for UNGU-XI, emphasized the critical role such evaluations play in maintaining the operational strength of the unit.
“Regular inspections ensure our logistics systems remain accountable, transparent, and aligned with UN expectations,” Capt. Elapar noted, commending the UNSOS team for their thorough and constructive assessment.
The inspection was attended by officers and soldiers of UNGU-XI, who are part of Uganda’s long-standing contribution to peacekeeping efforts under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
These regular assessments are part of the UN’s framework to uphold standards among troop-contributing countries, ensuring mission readiness and safeguarding the integrity of peacekeeping operations.
