Security forces have arrested five suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Wayengera Godfrey, an employee of Compassion International Uganda, who was killed on June 9, 2025, by attackers clad in military attire.
Godfrey was travelling with Christine Najjabi from Mbale to Kampala when the pair was ambushed. While Najjabi survived the ordeal, Godfrey was abducted and later found murdered in Namulira Village, Mukono District.
According to a statement issued by police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, a joint security operation has made “significant progress” in investigating the crime.
Rusoke confirmed that five suspects linked to the attack have been apprehended and vital evidence recovered.
“So far, five (05) suspects have been arrested during ongoing operations, and we have recovered one SAR rifle along with military and police uniforms,” said Kituuma Rusoke.
The suspects arrested include; Tumusiime Ashraf, alias Obadiah (40), of Kireka, arrested at Ku Sattu, Kayunga Road in Mukono, Ssenteza Mike (40), of Wakiso, arrested at Busawuli Ward in Wakiso District, Kasolo Fahad (30), who has residences in both Nabweru and Kireka, apprehended on Kamuli Road, Kireka, Sgt. Mwesige Muhammad, alias Jet Lee or Munamakerere (50), an army deserter from Kagugube, arrested in Wandegeya, Cpl Mugabe Borban Aspa, a serving army officer and resident of Kagugube, also arrested in Wandegeya.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are part of an organized criminal gang operating along Katosi Road in Mukono, targeting traders and travelers using military-style tactics.
The recovery of military-grade weapons and uniforms points to a dangerous trend of impersonation and organized violence.
“We would like to assure the public that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure that this matter is brought to its logical conclusion. We shall continue to pursue all leads to bring those responsible to justice,” Rusoke emphasized.
