The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has passed out 62 soldiers after they successfully completed an intensive two-month training in Oracle Level 4 Kit Operation and End User Systems.
The course, conducted at the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo, is part of the UPDF’s broader strategy to build a more technically proficient and modern military force.
Presiding over the graduation ceremony on Saturday, the Chief of Staff – Land Force, Brigadier Chris Bagonza, congratulated the graduates and praised the instructors for their dedication and professionalism.
“This training will enhance both the UPDF and the nation at large with vital skills,” Brig. Bagonza said. “The UPDF needs a skilled force to support operations effectively. Continuous training remains critical in maintaining a modern, professional army, as guided by our Commander-in-Chief, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.”
He urged the newly trained personnel to apply their skills in their respective units and maintain the discipline they demonstrated throughout the course.
“The skills you have gained should translate into real performance. Share what you have learned and inspire others,” he added.
Brigadier Ephraim Baguma Mugume, the Joint Staff Management Information Systems Officer, emphasized the value of integrating technical skills with military discipline. He noted that drills instilled throughout the training are essential in shaping professional conduct, especially in an increasingly digitized operational environment.
Maj. Shaluwah Ddegeya, Head of Training for the course, outlined several critical modules that the soldiers undertook, including strength management, records management, pension management systems, payroll and SACCO entries, systems security, maintenance of digital infrastructure and management Information Systems (MIS) kit usage
She commended both instructors and trainees for their resilience and dedication during the course.
The graduation ceremony was attended by senior and junior UPDF officers, who applauded the initiative as a significant stride toward building a tech-savvy and professional defence force.
The Oracle Systems training marks another milestone in the UPDF’s modernization agenda, aimed at equipping personnel with skills necessary to navigate and manage digital systems that support administrative and operational efficiency within the military.
