.SC Villa 1-0 KCCA FC
Record champions SC Villa on Saturday night won Kampala bragging rights after beating KCCA FC in a thrilling derby at the FUFA Kadiba stadium in Mengo in the Uganda Premier League.
The game players under the floodlights pitted third -placed KCCA FC and fourth- placed SC Villa as both teams ought to keep pace with leaders Vipers Sports Club who had earlier drawn with Kitara FC.
The hosts, SC Villa enjoyed better bigger spells with the ball as KCCA tried to match their opponents.
The 13-time champions created a number of chances but were denied by the SC Villa goalkeeper, David Lukwago.
However, on the hour mark, KCCA were hurt by their old boy, Hassan Mubiru who didn’t hold back, curling the ball past the Lugogo side’s goalkeeper, Mutwalibi Mugolofa to send fans at the fully packed Kadiba stadium into frenzy.
The goal was enough for Mubiru to spoil the party for his former paymasters but also ensure the Jogoos earned a perfect but painful revenge against KCCA FC who had earlier won the reverse fixture 2-1 at Namboole.
The win was so sweet for SC Villa as it ended KCCA FC’s dominance in the Kampala derby which had gone on for six years.
Unchanged table
However, the outcome of the game didn’t change much on the Uganda Premier League table, as KCCA maintained their third position on 45 points from 22 games, while SC Villa remain fourth on 44 points, one below the Kasasiro boys.
Kitende-based Vipers SC remain on the summit of the table with 51 points, four ahead of second-placed Kitara FC who are on 47.
