The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has deregistered 50,003 companies from the national companies register after they failed to comply with statutory filing requirements, marking one of the largest clean-ups of the registry in recent years.
In a notice issued on December 30, 2025, the Registrar of Companies said the affected entities were struck off under Section 130(6) of the Companies Act, Cap. 106, for failing to file annual returns for a continuous period of five years.
According to URSB, the companies were initially struck off the register following public notices issued on July 20, August 14 and August 30, 2023.
The law provided a 12-month window within which affected companies could apply for restoration to the register, a deadline that many failed to meet.
“As a result, the Registrar of Companies has deregistered 50,003 companies that did not apply for restoration within the prescribed period,” the notice states.
URSB said the move is aimed at enhancing transparency, improving the accuracy of the companies register and strengthening compliance with legal requirements by entities operating in Uganda.
The bureau has published the full list of deregistered companies on its website and advised members of the public, investors and other stakeholders to verify the status of companies before entering into any business transactions.
URSB further noted that companies seeking clarification may contact or visit any of its offices across the country for guidance.
The mass deregistration underscores the government’s continued push to enforce corporate compliance and eliminate dormant or non-compliant entities from Uganda’s business registry.
