UPDF officers have earned diplomas in French after completing a nine-month language course at the Junior Command and Staff College in Jinja.
The ceremony was held at the residence of the French Ambassador to Uganda, Her Excellency Virginie Leroy, in Kampala.
She said the course shows the growing military cooperation between Uganda and France.
“The French language belongs to those who speak it, who want it, who learn it, and who keep it alive,” Ambassador Leroy said, adding that French is important for peacekeeping and multinational missions.
Colonel Emmanuel Muhoozi thanked the French Embassy for its training support and said French helps strengthen cooperation and effectiveness in peacekeeping.
Lt Col Sebastein Berger, France’s Defence Attaché to Uganda, highlighted shared values between the two countries and mentioned joint efforts against Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
Graduate Amon Senkwari said French is useful for working with other armed forces in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic.
The event was attended by Defence Attachés from several countries.
