More than 200 people have been arrested during a joint security operation targeting crime in different parts of Kampala Metropolitan Area.
According to SP Rachael Kawala the KMP spokesperson, the overnight operations were conducted between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning in areas including Clock Tower, Kalerwe, Mutungo, Kitende, Wantoni and Ngandu.
Kawala said the crackdown followed increasing complaints from residents about robbery, mugging and drug abuse in the affected areas.
During the operation, security recovered opium, suspected housebreaking tools, identity cards and money transfer cards believed to have been found with the suspects.
“All suspects are currently in custody pending screening and court proceedings,” Kawala said.
She added that joint security agencies will continue carrying out similar operations to improve safety within Kampala Metropolitan Area.
