Police have confirmed an assassination attempt on the life of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo of the House of Prayer Ministries.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Bugingo was targeted at around 9pm as he returned home.
“At approximately 9 PM on January 2nd, 2024, unidentified assailants opened fire on Pastor Bugingo’s vehicle, registered as PRAIZ GOD, along Namungona , Zone 2 , kasubi Rubaga Division Kampala at Bawalakata Junction along National Housing Road , before swiftly escaping the scene on a motorcycle,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement.
He said that Bugingo’s bodyguard, one Richard Muhumuza unfortunately succumbed to the bullet wounds when he died upon arrival at hospital.
Despite sustaining injuries during the attack, Pastor Aloysious Bugingo managed to transport the vehicle to Mulago Hospital. Currently, Pastor Bugingo is undergoing medical treatment and is under close monitoring.”
Owoyesigyire said upon response, police found that the scene had already been tampered with but statements from witnesses were recorded whereas the deceased’s body has been conveyed to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a thorough postmortem examination.
“In our active pursuit of justice, we are thoroughly reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.”
