Dade Nursery and Primary School is redefining what learning looks like in an education environment still dominated by theory-based instruction. By placing practical skills at the centre of its curriculum, the Luzira-based school is equipping children with abilities they can apply at home, in their communities, and in their future careers.
This shift was on full display during the school’s annual exhibition, where pupils led demonstrations in science, baking, crocheting, chess, and music—offering parents and visitors a compelling glimpse into a hands-on learning culture that is steadily transforming the school.
At the heart of the exhibition were live science activities. Pupils confidently presented 3D learning models of the human heart, kidney, skin, skeleton, reproductive systems, and simple machines. The models—designed by River Flow International—have become central to the school’s teaching approach.
“Our learners now understand science because they do science. They touch it, build it, test it, and explain it,” one teacher said. The headteacher added that practical learning has significantly boosted the pupils’ comprehension and confidence, moving them away from rote memorisation to meaningful engagement with concepts.
Just a few metres away, the aroma of freshly baked snacks filled the air as pupils demonstrated how they mix, knead, roll, and prepare pastries—part of a growing vocational skills programme at the school. In another section, serious concentration filled the room as young chess players analysed moves with maturity beyond their years, showcasing the school’s belief in chess as a tool for critical thinking and problem-solving.
Music performances featuring recorders, drums, and percussion instruments added rhythm to the event, while colourful crochet displays highlighted the creativity and patience nurtured among young learners. From mats to decorative items, pupils showcased impressive craftsmanship.
The exhibition illustrated a broader shift underway: Dade Nursery and Primary School is steadily building a community defined by creativity, confidence, and practical capability. Parents expressed both pride and surprise at the level of skill demonstrated.
“I didn’t know my child could bake or explain a science concept in detail,” one parent said. “The school is opening their minds to what they can become.”
The school’s hands-on philosophy is already extending beyond its gates. Children are teaching siblings what they learn, helping with baking at home, creating simple household items, and even tutoring peers in their neighbourhoods.

Teachers report noticeable improvements in engagement, academic performance, and social confidence, while parents are becoming more involved in school life after seeing tangible progress in their children.
Dade Nursery and Primary School is not simply teaching; it is nurturing innovators, problem-solvers, and future leaders. By integrating practical science, arts, vocational skills, music, and strategic games like chess, the school is raising a generation equipped not just with knowledge, but with the ability to apply it.
The transformation at Dade stands as a powerful reminder of what education can become when children are given the freedom to explore, create, and discover.
