The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has commenced the valuation of 17 properties recovered from corrupt public officials, with the exercise expected to be completed within one month.
Chief Government Valuer, Gilbert Kermundu, revealed the timeline during the Inspector General of Government, Aisha Nalule Batala, second site visit to a property in Bukoto formerly owned by Geoffrey Kazinda.
Kazinda, a former principal accountant in the Office of the Prime Minister Uganda, was convicted in 2020 for illicit enrichment after being found to have accumulated wealth worth over shs4 billion that was inconsistent with his known sources of income.
Following his conviction, the court ordered that his properties be confiscated by the Government of Uganda.
The Bukoto mansion is among the 17 properties currently undergoing valuation by the IGG as part of efforts to facilitate their eventual disposal and recovery of public funds.
Kermundu expressed confidence in the valuation process, noting that a skilled team from the Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development Uganda is handling the exercise.
“I can assure you that we have a formidable team that is highly skilled in valuation. Our client charter clearly stipulates the timelines for such assignments, and this activity should not take more than one month,” he said.
The ongoing exercise underscores the IGG’s continued commitment to tracing, recovering, and disposing of assets acquired through corruption, as part of broader efforts to safeguard public resources.
Authorities say the valuation will pave the way for the disposal of the properties and the recovery of misappropriated funds.
