The Special Forces Command (SFC) has , conducted a series of handover and takeover ceremonies as senior officers assumed new responsibilities following recent appointments within the force.
Lt. Col. Murema first handed over his duties as Deputy Director of Operations at the SFC Headquarters to Lt. Col. A.C. Kaawe before assuming command of the 16 Service Brigade, headquartered at Busambaga in Entebbe.
The leadership transition at the brigade headquarters was presided over by the Commander of the Special Forces Command, Maj. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru.
Lt. Col. Allen Atuhaire, who had been serving as Acting Head of the 16 Service Brigade, formally handed over office by presenting a report on behalf of the outgoing Brigade Commander, Col. R.R. Tugume, who has proceeded to the National Defence College for a strategic course.
The report outlined key milestones achieved during Col. Tugume’s tenure, including the construction of modern storage facilities, fuel reserves, the main quarter guard and other critical infrastructure projects that have strengthened the brigade’s operational and logistical capabilities.
Addressing officers during the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Nyakikuru commended Col. Tugume for his leadership and contribution to one of the SFC’s most strategic formations.
He urged Lt. Col. Murema to build on the brigade’s achievements by promoting teamwork, professionalism, integrity and effective coordination.
Describing the 16 Service Brigade as the backbone of the SFC’s logistics and welfare support, Maj. Gen. Nyakikuru said strong leadership and unity would be vital in sustaining the brigade’s role in supporting the force’s operational effectiveness.
The SFC Commander also announced the appointment of Lt. Col. Allen Atuhaire as Deputy Brigade Commander. He noted that her former position as Brigade Operations and Training Officer would be filled in due course.
Earlier at the SFC Headquarters, Director of Operations Col. Philip Mugizi commended Lt. Col. Murema for his professionalism and dedication during his tenure as Deputy Director of Operations, crediting him for his contribution to the successful execution of SFC operations.
Col. Mugizi also welcomed Lt. Col. Kaawe to his new role, encouraging him to embrace innovation and leverage emerging technologies and modern operational approaches to enhance mission effectiveness.
The ceremonies were attended by senior SFC officers, including the newly appointed Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. John Mango Baraza, Director of Human Resource Management Col. Night Ikiriza, senior and junior officers, as well as non-commissioned officers.
