SC Villa has officially confirmed Omar Ahmed Hussein Mandela as its president after he emerged as the sole candidate in the club’s recent electoral process.
In an official statement, the club’s Electoral Commission confirmed that Mandela had successfully passed all vetting and approval procedures, clearing the way for him to assume the presidency unopposed.
Brian Kajubi, chairperson of the Electoral Commission, said the decision followed the club’s electoral regulations after no other aspirants completed the nomination process.
“Pursuant to Regulation 22(6) of the S.C Villa Regulations, the Electoral Commission hereby informs the Club membership that Mr. Omar Ahmed Hussein was duly vetted by the Commission and approved by the Club’s Board of Trustees as the sole candidate for the position of Club President,” Kajubi said.
He added that Mandela would now officially serve a five-year term at the helm of one of Uganda’s most decorated football clubs.
During the nomination exercise, five members initially picked up forms to contest the presidency, including Meywa Farooq, Dennis Ssebuggwawo Mbidde, Simeon Kawuma Bulezi, Joseph Muguluma Mbazzi (Dennis Misagga), and Mandela himself.
However, Mandela was the only aspirant to complete the nomination process and meet all requirements within the stipulated timeframe. His documents were subsequently forwarded for vetting, which concluded with the Board of Trustees approving his candidacy.
Earlier, some members, including Mbidde, Misagga, and Farooq, had petitioned the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) over alleged irregularities, requesting the suspension of the election and interim federation management of the club.
Despite these disputes, the Electoral Commission proceeded with the process, culminating in Mandela’s formal declaration as president, ensuring leadership continuity as SC Villa prepares for its next phase under his five-year mandate.
