Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has joined the continent in mourning the death of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a towering figure in Africa’s struggle for democracy.
In a tribute posted on X, Bobi Wine expressed deep sorrow over Odinga’s passing, praising him for his lifelong fight for justice and freedom.
“We have received the news of the passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga with great sadness. He stood tall for freedom, liberty, and dignity,” Bobi Wine Wrote.
Raila Odinga, a veteran opposition leader in Kenya and a prominent voice for governance reforms in Africa, passed away while receiving treatment in India.
His death has sparked tributes from leaders across the continent who hailed his resilience and commitment to democratic values.
Bobi Wine, who has often referenced Odinga’s political journey as a source of inspiration in his own struggle against authoritarianism, said the continent had lost a symbol of endurance and hope.
“In him, we have lost a great statesman – an African giant, who did his best for humanity amidst great adversity. Deepest condolences to the great people of Kenya and all pro-democracy forces around the world. May his soul rest in peace,” he wrote.
Odinga, widely respected for his role in Kenya’s multi-party political history, leaves behind a legacy that influenced many young opposition leaders across Africa.
