Following rising complaints from motorists over thefts of vehicle parts, the Kampala Metropolitan Police conducted an intelligence-led operation targeting hotspots along Jinja Road.
The operation, carried out on October 23 and 24, focused on areas including Wampewo, Punjan, and the former Electoral Commission stretch locations notorious for phone snatching, bag snatching, and thefts from vehicles.
As a result, two suspects were arrested and charged with stealing motor vehicle parts.
Among those apprehended is a suspected key promoter of the criminal network behind these thefts.
Several stolen vehicle components were recovered during the operation, including baby mirrors, side mirrors, grills for Toyota Harriers, lamps, and other accessories.
Most recoveries were made in the Kiseka area.
“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to curb theft from motor vehicles in the city,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer, Kampala Metropolitan Police.
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of motorists and reducing crimes along major roads in Kampala.
“The operation is still ongoing and more details will be provided in due course,” Owoyesigyire added.
