Police in Kyotera District have recovered 40 suspected stolen television sets, six smartphones, and three decoders during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers attached to Kyotera Central Police Station.
According to Twaha Kasirye, the Masaka Region spokesperson, the operation followed the arrest of a suspect identified as Joseph Muwonge, also known as “Jose.”
Kasirye said that during interrogation, Muwonge reportedly revealed that a room belonging to Khasim Ibrahim, a 26-year-old resident of Kisamula Zone in Kyotera Town, was being used to store suspected stolen items before they were sold to buyers.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects, together with other accomplices still at large, would allegedly break into people’s homes and steal household property, especially television sets, mobile phones, and other electronic appliances,” Kasirye said.
Police later arrested Khasim Ibrahim and searched his premises, where the suspected stolen items were recovered.
Kasirye noted that the recovered property could not be satisfactorily accounted for by the two suspects.
He added that the scene of crime officers documented the scene and all exhibits were handed over to Kyotera CPS as investigations continue.
The two suspects are currently detained at Kyotera CPS while police continue hunting for other members of the suspected criminal group.
