Police have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which a private security guard shot himself after a motorcycle he was asked to guard was stolen.
John Bosco Machar, 34 a security guard with SGA company guarding at Texas Energy Station turned the gun onto himself on Sunday morning after a motorcycle, registration number UEO 570E Bajaj that had been left for him to guard after being paid shs1000 on Saturday night went missing.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that at around 9pm on Saturday while on duty, the deceased was approached by one Vincent Oloka who asked him to keep safe his motorcycle after paying him shs1000. The deceased worked all night and was relieved by his colleague, the following morning at 7am,” Owoyesigyire said.
According to police, the colleague, Silvano Apet was not told anything until at around 9am on Sunday when Oloka came to pick the motorcycle, only to find it missing.
“The deceased was called at the said fuel station by the manager and upon interview, he could not give an account of the where abouts of the said motorcycle.”
Police say that the manager told the deceased to first wait as he checked the cameras to see how the motorcycle disappeared from where it had been parked.
“ The deceased instead left his colleague together with the owner, went to the changing room which was also the power house where the rifle was being kept, picked it and shot himself and died instantly.”
When the colleague heard the gunshot, he rushed to find out what had happened, only to find Machar’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, before he reported to the manager who also reported the matter to the nearby police.
According to Owoyesigyire, the scene was visited and the rifle, number UG PSO32004110 with four rounds of ammunitions recovered while one spent cartridge casing was also recovered .
The body as taken to the Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem as investigations into the incident commence.
