Ugandan youth leader and social entrepreneur Denise Ayebare has been recognised among Africa’s most promising young changemakers after being named to the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 Class of 2026.
The 23-year-old founder and Executive Director of BetterLife International joins a select group of young Africans celebrated for their leadership, innovation and contribution to social and economic transformation across the continent.
Ayebare founded BetterLife International while still a student, starting with an initial investment of $200 that supported the organisation’s first community activities, transport and basic operational materials. The youth-led organisation has since expanded its work to promote climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, women’s economic empowerment, youth leadership and community development.
According to Forbes Africa, BetterLife International focuses on supporting refugees, young people and vulnerable communities through programmes centred on climate action, education, sustainable livelihoods and grassroots development.
The organisation has also developed the Soilla app, a technology-driven platform designed to support farmers with guidance on soil health management and sustainable agricultural practices.
Ayebare’s work received strong recognition from the Forbes Africa selection committee, with judge Dr Nhlanhla Msomi awarding her a five-star rating for innovation, entrepreneurial impact and potential for scale, describing her as a top recommendation.
Beyond her role at BetterLife International, Ayebare serves as Secretary for External Relations at the National Youth Council of Uganda, where she continues to represent young people in discussions on climate change, sustainable development and youth participation.
Her recognition reflects the growing influence of Africa’s young leaders who are moving from advocacy into building practical solutions, creating institutions and shaping conversations around the continent’s future.
Speaking about the achievement, Ayebare said the recognition represents a broader message about the potential of young Africans.
“ This recognition is a reminder that young Africans are not waiting for change to happen; they are building it every day in their communities, institutions and countries,” she said.
The Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list is widely regarded as one of the continent’s leading platforms for celebrating entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders under the age of 30 who are creating meaningful impact in various sectors.
Ayebare’s inclusion comes as Africa’s youthful population increasingly takes a central role in addressing challenges related to climate change, economic inclusion, technology and community development.
She said the recognition strengthens her commitment to expanding opportunities and supporting communities through innovative solutions.
“The work continues. This is about using every platform to expand opportunities, strengthen communities and show what is possible when young people are trusted to lead,” Ayebare said.
