Ugandan security forces will later this month swap the parade ground for the firing range as personnel take aim at bragging rights in a shooting competition during the upcoming 18th edition inter-forces games.
The games will be held at St. Joseph Layibi College in Gulu City between August 25 and September 5 as Uganda People’s Defence Forces(UPDF), Uganda Police Forces, Uganda Wildlife Authority and Uganda Prisons fight for top honours.
The security forces will also compete in football, netball, athletics, handball, taekwondo, darts and volleyball.
Speaking on Monday, deputy UPDF spokesperson, Col Henry Obbo said the games aim to among others, enhance fitness and discipline.
“The games also aim to improve operational readiness among security forces, strengthening inter-agency cooperation and camaraderie among security bodies,” Col Obbo said.
“We also aim to promote civil-military relations to build community confidence and solidarity but also identify sporting talent within the services.”
Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said the games will also be used to promote health while reducing stress among security forces
“We would like to invite the public to participate by coming to watch and cheer at the same time contributing to the bigger solidarity of civil military cooperation that Ugandan security forces are hinged on,” Rusoke said.
According to Uganda Wildlife Authority spokesperson, Bashir Hangi, the games will provide another opportunity for the personnel in the security forces to come together.
Officials said the opening ceremony will be held on August, 24 with the closing ceremony on September, 4 at St. Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu.
