Troops of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) stationed at the International Peace Support Operations Training Centre (IPSO-TC) in Singo carried out a series of community activities in Nakaseke South as part of the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations.
The week-long outreach saw soldiers cleaning streets and public spaces in Semuto, Kapeka, Namusaale, and Kona-Kilak townships.
UPDF medical teams also conducted a medical outreach at Semuto Health Centre IV, providing free treatment to hundreds of residents.
In Kapeka Town Council, expectant mothers received mama kits and mosquito nets as part of the support initiative.
The activities were launched at Kapeka Town Council grounds, where Nakaseke Resident District Commissioner, Byabasaijja Rose Mary, emphasized the significance of the 1986 liberation struggle led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
She credited the President’s leadership and the discipline of the UPDF for Uganda’s peace and stability.
The Commandant of IPSO-TC Singo, Col Moses Nabaasa, highlighted the historical journey of the National Resistance Army, now the UPDF, noting that Tarehe Sita remains a key tradition that underscores the army’s commitment to serving the country beyond the battlefield.
Community leaders, including mayors and local council representatives, praised the UPDF for its continued support of social services and community development.
The outreach not only honored the sacrifices of the liberation struggle but also strengthened the bond between the army and civilians, promoting national unity.
Uganda commemorates 6 February each year as the founding date of the UPDF, marking the 1981 attack on Kabamba Barracks that launched the protracted struggle culminating in the 1986 liberation.
