Tragedy struck on the road to Fort Portal when the vehicle of State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahare, was involved in a fatal accident in Kagadi District, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
The incident occurred as the minister was en route to attend the Tooro Kingdom Annual Youth Conference, a major event that draws youth leaders and delegates from across the region.
According to eyewitness reports, the minister’s vehicle collided with a motorcycle (boda boda), killing the rider instantly.
Two individuals traveling in the minister’s entourage sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility.
Minister Barugahare, who survived the crash unscathed, later released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
“Thank God for His mercy. Our car was involved in a horrific accident in Kagadi on our way to Fort Portal for the Tooro Kingdom Annual Youth Conference,” he said.
“I’m grateful for our driver’s quick thinking and skillful maneuvers that saved us. Sadly, a boda boda rider lost his life, and two of our people were injured. May the deceased soul rest in peace. My condolences to the family, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
Local authorities and police responded promptly to the scene and have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
The identity of the deceased boda boda rider had not been officially released at the time of reporting, as efforts to notify the next of kin were underway.
