President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government will not tolerate any attempts to destabilise Uganda, stressing that the country has no room for chaos.

“There is no place for chaos in Uganda,” the President said.

Museveni made the remarks on Sunday, December 14, 2025, while meeting parliamentary candidates from the National Unity Platform (NUP) who have crossed to the ruling NRM. The meeting took place at State Lodge Nakasero in Kampala.

Among those who joined the NRM are Ojangole Anthony, a parliamentary contestant for Agule County and former NUP chairperson for Pallisa, and Godfrey Kateu, a parliamentary contestant for Pallisa County and former NUP secretary general for Pallisa District.

The President welcomed the candidates to the ruling party, describing their decision as timely and forward-looking.

“You are welcome to the NRM,” Museveni said, thanking them for what he described as foresight and clarity of purpose.

Museveni also assured Ugandans that the 2026 general elections will be free and fair, while cautioning the public—particularly the youth—against being manipulated into violence by opposition actors during or after the electoral process.

“Some youth in the opposition have gone ahead to form gangs to cause chaos. We shall crush those gangs,” the President warned, adding that political mobilisation should focus on peaceful participation rather than violence.

“People should mobilise their supporters to vote peacefully instead of encouraging disorder,” he said.

The President further commended Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa and Special Presidential Assistant for Press and Mobilisation Faruk Kirunda for their role in promoting NRM ideology across the country.

Kirunda, who led the delegation, told the meeting that more opposition candidates were preparing to join the NRM, citing the party’s ideology and leadership as key motivators.

Speaking on behalf of the new entrants, Ojangole Anthony said they had rejected plans to engage in violence during the elections.

“Our leaders were telling us to cause chaos and bloodshed during elections, but after careful thought, we decided not to take part in destructive activities. The NRM has been building this country for the last 40 years,” he said.

He urged political actors seeking power to do so peacefully and through lawful means.

“I call upon my fellow Ugandans to stop listening to selfish people who want to destroy our country,” Ojangole added.

The meeting was attended by Thomas Tayebwa, Pallisa Resident District Commissioner Majid Dhikusooka, NRM flag bearer for Gogonya County Derrick Orone, NRM flag bearer for Pallisa County Ibrahim Aisu, and other party leaders.
