Police have made a significant breakthrough in investigations into the viral robbery that occurred at Nsambya Junction in Kampala.
The robbery, which was captured on CCTV cameras and widely shared on social media, showed a gang riding on boda bodas intercepting another motorcycle carrying a manager of Riverside Forex Bureau. The victim, who was transporting cash, was violently attacked and repeatedly kicked before the assailants fled with the money.
According to police, more than Shs45 million was stolen during the robbery, sparking widespread public concern over security in the city.
In a statement issued on Friday, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said investigations had led to the recovery of a motorcycle bearing registration number UMA 655GK. Preliminary findings indicate that the motorcycle’s number plate had been forged to conceal the identity of the motorcycle used in the robbery.
“Police have today arrested Yuda Kamoga, also known as ‘Sparta’, and Kayabula Arnold, a boda boda rider, in connection with the robbery. A motorcycle registration number UMA 602KK, believed to be linked to the case, was also recovered,” Owoyesigyire said.
He noted that the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish the extent of their involvement and to identify and apprehend other accomplices.
“Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to ensuring that all those involved are arrested and brought to justice,” Owoyesigyire added.
