Alexandra Medical Centre has broken its silence on the circumstances surrounding the death of Kalangala Woman MP, Helen Nakimuli, as concerns continue to grow over the events leading to her passing.
Nakimuli, 40, passed away on Sunday, shortly after undergoing surgery to treat uterine fibroids.
However members of the public and colleagues have since questioned circumstances under which she died at the facility yet the surgery was said to be minor.
In a Tuesday statement by Dr. Castro Kisuule, the medical facility expressed grief and solidarity with Nakimuli’s family, while urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
“She was not just a patient. She was a daughter, a leader, and a devoted servant of her people,” Dr.Kasule said.
“We are a family of medical professionals who chose this calling because we care deeply about human life. The loss of any patient is never routine for us. It is always personal,” the statement added.
Alexandra Medical Centre reiterated its openness to Nakimuli’s family and affirmed that the medical team involved in her care would continue to provide support where necessary.
“We ask for calm, for patience, and above all for prayers for the family of Hon. Nakimuli as they navigate this painful season. May God grant them comfort and peace,” the statement concluded.
Authorities are expected to release a comprehensive report following further medical and procedural assessments.
Meanwhile, funeral arrangements are underway. A vigil is being held in Kampala, and Parliament is expected to pay tribute to the legislator tomorrow, Wednesday , before her body is transported to Kalangala District for burial later this week.
