The family of the late Julius Kitone, a journalist with NBS Television, who died in a road accident on Friday evening along the Kampala–Mbarara Highway, has released the official burial programme.
According to the schedule shared by his former employer, Next Media Services, a vigil will be held on Sunday, February 15, starting at 4:00pm at Omuka Restaurant in Naguru, Kampala, where colleagues, friends, and members of the public will gather to pay their last respects.
Kitone’s body will then be transported to his ancestral home in Kiteredde Cell, Magabi Ward, Ntantamuki Town Council, Kooki County, Rakai District, where he will be laid to rest on Monday, February 16, at 2:00pm.
The 35-year-old journalist’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from fellow journalists, government officials, and members of the public, who have described him as dedicated, professional, and passionate about his work.
Kitone began his journalism career in 2016 as a Luweero-based correspondent for NBS Television before officially joining the station’s newsroom in Kampala in 2020.
He became widely respected for his in-depth special reports and environmental journalism. Last year, he was part of the NBS team that covered the COP2025 climate summit in Brazil, a highlight of his career.
Colleagues say Kitone was committed to telling stories that mattered, particularly those focusing on environmental issues and the lives of ordinary people.
