Police have reported a slight increase in murder by shooting cases in 2025, with 190 incidents recorded compared to 188 in 2024, according to the Annual Crime Report 2025.
The report shows that 190 people were killed by gunfire during the year, the majority being adult men.
Of these, 171 were male adults, 12 female adults, and 7 male juveniles, highlighting a continued trend where men are the most affected by gun-related killings.
Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) registered the highest number of cases, with KMP South leading at 19 cases, followed by KMP East with 17. Other regions with notable cases include Kidepo with 16 and Mt. Moroto with 14.
At the district and divisional level, Kaabong recorded the highest number of shooting murders at 9 cases.
Nakapiripirit and Agago followed with 8 cases each, while Kira Road and Kabalagala divisions in Kampala registered 6 cases apiece.
Other regions reporting significant numbers include KMP North, Aswa East, Rwizi, and North Kyoga, reflecting a widespread distribution of gun-related violence across the country.
The findings point to persistent challenges in controlling firearm-related crime, particularly in urban centers and parts of Karamoja sub-region, raising concerns about public safety and access to illegal firearms.
