The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced changes to the campaign itinerary of its presidential flag bearer and incumbent head of state, President Museveni.
NRM secretary general, Richard Todwong said on Saturday that Museveni who was scheduled to hold rallies in Lira City, Lira District and Kole on Monday had postponed them to a later date.
“The campaigns in Lira City, Lira District, and Kole District, which were slated for Monday, have been postponed. A new date will be communicated,” Todwong said.
“However, for Oyam on Tuesday, we are on — we shall be there in the morning and later proceed to Pakwach in the afternoon,” he added.
According to the NRM secretary general, the changing of the campaign program was necessitated by state duties that Museveni has to attend to on Monday.
“Our national chairman is both a presidential candidate and the President of the country. He had a prior engagement on Monday that he must attend to, but he will resume his campaigns on Tuesday.”
President Museveni, who is seeking re-election in the 2026 general elections, launched his campaign earlier this week, focusing on consolidating what the NRM terms as “gains ” in national development, economic recovery, industrialisation, and regional peace.
Having led Uganda since 1986, Museveni is among Africa’s longest-serving leaders. He was endorsed once again by the NRM as the party’s sole candidate
The postponement in Lira and Kole is not unusual for the incumbent, who often balances his campaign with his responsibilities as head of state — especially at a time when regional security dynamics and economic matters require his attention.
The NRM has assured voters in the affected areas that new dates for the rallies will be announced soon and that the President remains committed to engaging with all Ugandans across the country during the campaign season.
