President Museveni on Monday concluded his campaign trail in Bugisu sub region.
Speaking during his last rally at Maluku grounds in Mbale City, Museveni called on Ugandans to safeguard the peace and stability achieved under the NRM government and to consolidate national progress through hard work, wealth creation, and vigilance against internal and external threats.
T Museveni highlighted that the NRM’s greatest achievement over the past 40 years has been fostering enduring peace by rejecting sectarian politics.
“The NRM brought peace to Uganda because we do not believe in sectarianism—religion, tribe, or looking down on women. This ideology has enabled us to build a strong party, win elections in the first round, and maintain political stability,” he said.
Museveni noted that peace has allowed the country to establish strong national institutions, including the army, police, judiciary, and service commissions, all founded on patriotism and professionalism.
He emphasized development as another major NRM contribution, citing the rehabilitation and construction of roads, electricity expansion, and increased access to water across the Bugisu region.
Key projects include the Mbale–Soroti, Mbale–Budaka, Mbale–Bubulo–Bugobero, and Mbale–Magale–Namisindwa roads, with plans for the Mbale–Nkonkonjeru and Butaleja roads.
Electricity and telecommunication coverage have improved, and safe water is now available in 484 out of 613 villages in Mbale District. The government is also investing in irrigation projects such as the Namatala Irrigation Scheme, Nakusi Solar-Powered Irrigation, Wabukhasa Communal Valley Tank, and Wabukhasa Solar Irrigation System to support commercial agriculture.
Museveni highlighted the ongoing rehabilitation of the Tororo–Mbale–Kampala–Gulu–Pakwach railway line to improve transport and boost trade. On education, he noted that Mbale now has 21 government secondary schools and reaffirmed the commitment to free education and vocational skilling hubs to equip youth with employable skills.
The President distinguished between public development and household wealth, emphasizing that while infrastructure is government-built, wealth creation is the responsibility of families. Initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga are empowering Ugandans to participate in the money economy. Additional funding under PDM will support parishes, cultural, religious, and youth-focused programs.
Highlighting economic growth, Museveni said that while the government employs 480,000 people, the private sector provides 1.3 million jobs through commercial agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, services, and artisanal work.
He stressed that Uganda’s economy continues to grow strongly despite external pressures, and with oil production expected next year, the country is set for a “qualitative leap” in infrastructure and service delivery.
The president reassured citizens that peace and stability will be maintained during and after the elections, urging Ugandans to protect the gains made and continue building the nation through development, wealth creation, and education.
NRM Eastern Region Vice Chairperson Calvin Echodu and Mbale NRM Chair Moses Wambogo commended the President for his development initiatives and warned against tribalism, emphasizing its threat to national unity.
