The National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially released the list of its parliamentary candidates who will carry the party’s flag in Uganda’s Central Region during the 2026 general elections.

The announcement follows closely on the heels of the party’s national manifesto launch and campaign roadmap unveiling, marking a strategic step in its preparations for the upcoming polls.

Several incumbent legislators have retained the party’s endorsement, including prominent women leaders Brenda Nabukenya (Luweero District Woman MP), Shamim Malende (Kampala Woman MP), Betty Nambooze Bakireke (Mukono Municipality), Betty Ethel Naluyima (Wakiso District Woman MP), and Aisha Kabanda (Butambala District Woman MP).

Emerging voices such as Sharon Mahoro Emily (Nakasongola Woman MP) and Susan Mugabi (Buvuma Woman MP) also secured the NUP flag, reflecting the party’s growing effort to blend experience with new political energy.

In the Kampala Metropolitan area, NUP has maintained a strong presence, with party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi set to defend his Nakawa West seat. Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu will contest in Kawempe South, Abubakar Kawalya in Lubaga North, and Ali Kasirye Nganda for Kampala Central. Shamim Malende remains the party’s choice for the Woman MP seat in Kampala, while Zahara Maala Luyilika will vie for Makindye West.

In Wakiso District, the party confirmed Charles Matovu (Busiro South), Mathias Walukagga (Busiro East), and George Musisi (Kira Municipality) as official candidates. Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, a celebrated media personality-turned-politician, clinched the party’s ticket for Nansana Municipality following a competitive vetting process.

In Mukono District, NUP will be represented by Abdallah Kiwanuka (Mukono North), Robert Maseruka (Mukono South), and Kiwanuka Sulaiman (Nakifuma). Long-serving legislator Betty Nambooze will retain her position as the party’s candidate for Mukono Municipality.

The Greater Luweero sub-region will feature new faces under the NUP banner, including Denis Ssekabira (Katikamu North), Hassan Kirumira (Katikamu South), and Robert Ssekitoleko (Bamunanika).

In Masaka sub-region, the party has endorsed Jamiru Kivumbi (Bukoto Central), Evans Kanyike Ronald (Bukoto East), and Gyaviira Lubowa Ssebina (Nyendo-Mukungwe).

NUP also confirmed that its Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, has been cleared to contest for the Nakawa West seat, while Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya will run for Kampala Central, signifying a strategic deployment of top party figures into key urban constituencies.

This list represents only the Central Region, and the party is expected to release additional names from other regions in the coming weeks.
