President Museveni has signed into law the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026, after it was recently passed by Parliament.
According to government, the new law is intended to protect Uganda from unlawful foreign interference in the country’s political, security and economic affairs.
The announcement was made through State House’s official X account on Sunday night.
Government said the law will also safeguard legitimate investments, trade, humanitarian work and academic collaborations in the country.
The Bill, which sparked mixed reactions among civil society organisations, activists, religious leaders, cultural institutions, politicians and members of the public, was passed by Parliament on May 5.
