The Director of Criminal Investigations, AIGP Tom Magambo, has warned individuals planning to disrupt the electoral process, saying the state will not hesitate to act against those bent on violence.
Addressing the media on Monday, Magambo said security agencies are constitutionally mandated to ensure peaceful elections and protect citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
“There will be no chaos here. If you’re busy planning chaos, then you should expect the system to come for you,” Magambo said.
He stressed that the safety of citizens remains a top priority for law enforcement as the country approaches the election period.
“Our people must have peaceful elections, and whoever is planning to threaten our people, regardless of the political colours, our work under the Constitution is to make sure that doesn’t happen,” he added.
Magambo made it clear that authorities will not stand by as disorder unfolds, warning against any attempts to destabilize the city.
“We are not going to sit down and smile when you’re burning our city. That will not happen,” he said.
The CID director further cautioned those contemplating anarchy to reconsider their actions, noting that security agencies are prepared to act firmly but within the law.
“I want to assure you, if you’re planning anarchy, you prepare yourself—because that’s what the Constitution asks us to do,” Magambo said.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity, as Uganda goes to the polls on Thursday.
