Uganda Airlines has received the first of two newly leased aircraft into its growing fleet, marking another step in the national carrier’s efforts to expand connectivity and strengthen operations.
The airline on Tuesday, May 12, received a wet-leased Boeing 737-800 that will be operated in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines.
Uganda Airlines said the addition is expected to improve operational flexibility and boost services across its network.
“We officially welcomed the first of two newly leased aircraft into the Uganda Airlines fleet with a wet-leased Boeing 737-800 operated in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines,” the airline said.
The carrier added that the aircraft will help strengthen its operations as it continues to expand regional and international connectivity.
“This addition strengthens our operations and enhances flexibility as we continue to deliver greater connectivity across our network,” Uganda Airlines noted.
A wet lease arrangement means the aircraft is provided together with crew, maintenance, and insurance by the operating airline, in this case Ethiopian Airlines.
The arrival of the Boeing 737-800 comes at a time when Uganda Airlines is pursuing fleet expansion and route growth to meet increasing passenger demand and improve efficiency on key destinations within Africa and beyond.
This leased aircraft joins Uganda Airlines’ modest fleet, which currently consists of two Airbus A330-800neo long-haul aircraft, one Airbus A320-200, and four Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets.
The second leased aircraft is also expected to join the fleet in the coming weeks as the airline intensifies its expansion strategy.
